Dominican Republic is servedby many airlines. We recommend flying into Santo Domingo or El Catey if your final destination is Las Terrenas. We advise against flying into Punta Cana as this implies a further 4 hours journey by road or expensive private internal flights.

Getting to Las Terrenas from Puerto Plata

The easiest way to reach Las Terrenas from Puerto Plata is to take a taxi (air conditioned). Flights are generally scheduled to arrive into Puerto Plata in the afternoon and you can be in Las Terrenas by evening. The journey takes around 3½ hours and costs approximately US $ 200 *.

Getting to Las Terrenas from Punta Cana (New)

The easiest way to reach Las Terrenas from Punta Cana is to take a taxi (air conditioned). With the new highway Coral the travel time is considerably reduced at approximately 4 hours from the airport of Punta Cana to Las Terrenas. Count 400 USD* for one way for 1 to 6 persons luggages included.

- Much more economic, you can take one of the very comfortable buses which connect Bavaro with Santo Domingo 6 times a day. Count 3 hours and 400 Pesos. If you leave before 9 am, you can then take a bus of Santo Domingo to Las Terrenas which leaves Plaza Lama At 1:40 pm (Parada of Samana). Count 380 Pesos and 2 hours of route until Las Terrenas.

Getting to Las Terrenas from El Catey

By taxi (air conditioned). The journey takes around 30 minutes and costs approximately US $ 85*, by way of the magnificent new road of the seaside.

Getting to Las Terrenas from Santo Domingo

The majority of international flights into Santo Domingo are scheduled to arrive late evening. Las Terrenas is a 2 hours drive from the airport which can be very tiring after a long haul flight and there are no internal flights available at that hour to get you to Las Terrenas. Whether you choose to travel by taxi or internal flight, we recommend you spend your first night in Santo Domingo and enjoy the evening discovering the myriad of charming little streets and restaurants to be found in the historical center known as the “Colonial Area”.

• If travelling by taxi, you have two options. Coming straight to Las Terrenas from the international airport means you´ll arrive late evening (2 hours costing approximately US $ 200*). Should you decide to overnight in Santo Domingo then a 30 minute taxi ride costing approximately US $ 35 will get you to the city center. The journey to Las Terrenas the following day takes 2h30 hours (private air conditioned taxi for max 5).

• By bus. is the cheapest option. You will have to overnight in Santo Domingo as there is no bus service at night and reach the bus station the next day. Contact us for the bus time tables. Seats cannot be booked. See :

• By rental car. Not recommended at nighttime if you are unfamiliar with the road.
How to get to Las Terrenas directly from the airport:
Leaving Las Americas airport head towards Santo Domingo and turn right immediately after the toll booth (you pay no toll) and onto the ramp for the highway to SAMANA. (If you miss the turn off you will have to make a u-turn before Santo Domingo….). There are 3 toll booths en route and the charges come to around 400 Pesos in total. Only Dominican currency is accepted (but not bills of 2,000 Pesos, so get change before leaving the airport !). When you reach the end of the highway (about 1½ hr drive) turn right towards SAMANA. At Catey Airport on the left hand side you will find a new highway called the Atlantic Boulevard (Bulevar del Atlántico) which will take you straight to Las Terrenas. This road shortens the journey considerably and the toll is about 500 Pesos. If you prefer not to take this new road, simply drive on towards SAMANA and turn left at the Texaco gas station exiting SANCHEZ. Then it´s just a 30 minute drive over the hills to Las Terrenas.
You can also rent a GPS when renting your vehicle. …)autopista-samana-1
